Rebels in the drivers seat

SIX NATIONS — The Six Nations Rebels’ best of five Jr. B Western Finals against the Orangeville Northmen has been a close checking and low scoring affair throughout games #1 and #2, but the four-time Founders Cup Champion Rebels prevailed in both last week.

Thursday night, it was an 8-6 win at home followed by a 6-5 win Monday night in Orangeville.

The score remained at 0-0 until Grayson Houghton gave Orangeville a 1-0 lead at 10:26 of the first period. Garret Vyse-Square tied it at 1-1 before the end of the period from Mitch Green and Travis Longboat.

The Rebels and Nothmen stayed neck and neck throughout the second period, each team scoring three times with Justin Martin, Ricky Smith and Josh Miller scoring for Six Nations.

Ricky Smith and Layne Smith scored in the third to break the 4-4 tie, with Travis Brown scoring the game’s last goal for Orangeville.

Game #3 of the series goes Thursday night, at the ILA where a Six Nations’ win will take the Division and set them up for the play off for the league championship against either Akwesasne or Halton Hills. The winner of that series will go to the Founders Cup, this year hosted by the Calgary Mountaineers Junior B Lacrosse Club. Games will be played at the Max Bell Arena from August 17-23, 2015.
