GREAT to host Community Leadership Program

The Six Nations Women of the Grand River project, funded by Grand River Employment & Training will be hosting an upcoming Community Leadership Program. According to GREAT, “The project involves four phases: to develop partnership, the development of a community plan to address the economic security of the women of Six Nations, to produce the Community Economic Security Strategic Plan and implement strategies out of the plan.”

Community services and organizations partnering with this initiative include: Ganohkwasra, Grand River Post Secondary Education Office, Six Nations Economic Development, Six Nations Health Services, Six Nations Police, Six Nations Social Services, and Ontario Works.

Some of the strategic priorities of the Leadership Program are: to reduce institutional barriers that limit women’s opportunities, contribute to economic change to enhance employment or self-employment opportunities, create a greater awareness of resources and opportunities and to contribute to social change where women will be better prepared to pursue economic security.

The program involves 22 workshops starting Saturday, January 18 and runs every Thursday after that from 6-9pm. The seven primary workshops run until March and the 15 secondary workshops run from March until September.

The Community Leadership Program will launch this Saturday, January 18 starting at 9:30 am, in the GREAT theatre. Pre-registration is required. For more info, contact Barb at 519-445-3119 or email her at barb@greatsn.com
